{"id":14955,"date":"2016-06-15T11:33:06","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T10:33:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=14955"},"modified":"2016-06-15T16:32:32","modified_gmt":"2016-06-15T15:32:32","slug":"get-happy-get-healthy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2016\/06\/15\/get-happy-get-healthy\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Happy, Get Healthy!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pupils from years 5 and 6 at Parks Primary school in Leicester took part in a range of workshops on Tuesday 14 June as part of a \u2018Get Happy, Get Healthy\u2019 day organised by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT).<\/p>\n<p>The workshops were designed to help children understand the link between their physical and mental health and to explore positive ways of dealing with thoughts, feelings and behaviours.<br \/>\nChildren were able to consider what different emotions look like in others, to learn techniques to cope with anxiety, and to understand how the body responds to stressful or risky situations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14956\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14956 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0436\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1936\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436.jpg 2592w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-768x574.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-1024x765.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-265x198.jpg 265w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-696x520.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-1068x798.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0436-562x420.jpg 562w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2592px) 100vw, 2592px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They worked together to identify their own personal qualities and existing skills, and to consider how they could use these to support the wider school community.<\/p>\n<p>Parks Primary\u2019s school nurse, Zo\u00eb Dann, was on hand to run a \u2018sugar swap challenge\u2019, designed to encourage children to think about the amount of sugar hidden in a range of snacks and drinks, and to consider healthier alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>At lunchtime, pupils helped to launch the Move it Boom Rio Summer Sports Jam, LPT\u2019s summer activity challenge for kids, which is being supported by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS), Leicester City Football Club and Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC), as well as Loughborough University and the Healthy Schools programme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14957\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14957 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0448\" width=\"2270\" height=\"1385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448.jpg 2270w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448-1024x625.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448-696x425.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448-1068x652.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0448-688x420.jpg 688w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2270px) 100vw, 2270px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Steve Franklin and Martyn Dobson from LCCC\u2019s coaching team helped the children \u2013 not to mention LRS mascot Leo the Lion \u2013 to get active and develop their cricketing skills, and to encourage them to sign up to the Move it Boom interactive sporting challenge at LPT\u2019s Health for Kids website (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthforkids.co.uk\/moveitboom\"><u>www.healthforkids.co.uk\/moveitboom<\/u><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthforkids.co.uk\/moveitboom\"><u>)<\/u><\/a> for a chance to win a range of exciting sporting prizes.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Melling, Head of Community Development at LPT said: \u201cWe are committed to local people leading health improvements in communities.
