{"id":14696,"date":"2016-06-07T13:58:30","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T12:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=14696"},"modified":"2016-06-07T13:58:30","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T12:58:30","slug":"vote-leave-are-misleading-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2016\/06\/07\/vote-leave-are-misleading-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Vote Leave Are Misleading People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The campaign to leave the EU seems to have acquired an advert on the Google search engine that seats its website at the very top of the search results in the UK when \u201cregister to vote\u201d is typed in. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">When a person reaches the website and clicks on the \u201chave you registered to vote?\u201d link, the website redirects users to a webpage with a form that says \u201cRegister To Vote Now\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">However, filling in this form doesn\u2019t register the person to vote, instead it sends their information straight to Vote Leave. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Education Secretary Nicky, who is campaigning for Remain alongside Labour MP Stella Creasy wrote in their joint letter to the Electoral Commission:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201cIt has come to our attention that Vote Leave appear to have paid for online advertising to ensure that their campaign website regarding registration is promoted ahead of the government website that directly enables citizens to register to vote.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201cThis website does not enable people to register, and therefore could easily mislead people in to thinking that they have secured their ballot paper.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201cBy securing a ranking for this site higher than the official registration site, Vote Leave&#8217;s underhand tactics could disenfranchise citizens without their knowledge who have in good faith used this site to try to register.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Californian FB',serif; color: #281e1e;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Vote Leave have already been accused of setting up a \u201ccon\u201d competition with a one in several billion chance of a final winner.
