{"id":14471,"date":"2016-05-27T15:36:24","date_gmt":"2016-05-27T14:36:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=14471"},"modified":"2016-05-27T15:36:24","modified_gmt":"2016-05-27T14:36:24","slug":"gmb-dispute-leads-to-reprieve-for-sick-pay-scheme-at-birmingham-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2016\/05\/27\/gmb-dispute-leads-to-reprieve-for-sick-pay-scheme-at-birmingham-city-council\/","title":{"rendered":"GMB Dispute Leads To Reprieve For Sick Pay Scheme At Birmingham City Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a result of the Government\u2019s slashing of Local Government budgets, the Council put forward a range of proposed changes to terms and conditions as part of the budget proposals for 2016 to 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The changes included a proposal to withdraw from the nationally agreed sickness scheme that would have meant workers at the council and in schools would lose pay for the first 3 days of any period of sickness and have their sick pay entitlement reduced by half.<\/p>\n<p>GMB had lodged a dispute and begun preparations to ballot members on this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Gill Whittaker, GMB Organiser, said, &#8220;<\/span><b><span style=\"color: #000000;\">GMB has continued to talk to the Council since we lodged the dispute. We\u2019ve had some full and frank discussions. We\u2019re really pleased that these have led to today\u2019s outcome.<\/p>\n<p>There are still issues around the other proposed changes to terms and conditions.
