Shakeel Afsar, an Entrepreneur from Acocks Green discovered an ancient well at the Victorian property that he is extending.<\/p>\n
Mr Afsar runs a property development business with his brother Akeel, and plans to flood the water industry with a Brummie brand of water.<\/p>\n
Severn Trent have commended Mr. Afsar on uncovering his own private water source, which could be useful when the house-pipe prohibition weather hits.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old said, whilst laughing: \u201cYou know what? We might even try to get Acocks Green recognised as a spa town.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, it is still too early to say what the future holds. Water that has been pulled from the well, in the garden of the Victorian house, is currently being tested to confirm it\u2019s drinkable.<\/p>\n
Local historians are excited by this new prospect that was discovered last weekend. They believe the brickwork insinuates that the well pre-dates the Victorian era.<\/p>\n
The discovery was made whilst in the middle of groundwork being carried out for a large extension to the 100-year-old property.<\/p>\n
The builders on site originally believed they had cut through sewerage pipes. On closer inspection they found the 25-foot deep well.<\/p>\n
Shakeel, from Moseley, said: \u201cThe clarity of the water is just crazy. It is absolutely crystal clear; it\u2019s like tap water. The council has confirmed it\u2019s my well. I could just fill it in, but I want to create a feature for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will cost money, but this is something that should be preserved. One worker at the site is aged 76 and he\u2019s been in the industry since he was 21. He\u2019s never seen anything like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shakeel, who acquired the house two years ago, plans to make the most of his discovery.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cBottled Acocks Green water, why not? Or how about a health spa.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the moment, historians are trying to find out more about the well, but I intend to make the most of the discovery.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s very exciting and just imagine how it will help residents during droughts.\u201d<\/p>\n
The well is gaining a lot of publicity with visitors eager to see the misplaced slice of Birmingham history. It seems Mr Afsar has discovered a real tourist attraction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
