Visible blood in urine is a key symptom in many bladder and kidney cancers and those who notice it, even if it\u2019s just the once, should see their doctor without delay. Yet research has found that 43% of people would wait until they saw blood in their urine at least a second time before they contacted their GP.<\/font><a title=\"\" name=\"_ednref2\" href=\"http:\/\/192.168.1.3:8080\/AsianTodayCMS\/FCKeditor\/editor\/fckblank.html#_edn2\"><sup><span><sup><span><font size=\"2\">[ii]<\/font><\/span><\/sup><\/span><\/sup><\/a><font size=\"2\"> <\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">It is believed that within South Asian communities there are cultural, language and religious reasons that can prevent people from seeing their doctor early. There is often a strong fear of cancer, a perception that cancer is an incurable disease that quickly leads to death. Some believe that by talking about it is tempting fate.<\/font><a title=\"\" name=\"_ednref3\" href=\"http:\/\/192.168.1.3:8080\/AsianTodayCMS\/FCKeditor\/editor\/fckblank.html#_edn3\"><sup><span><span><sup><span><font size=\"2\">[iii]<\/font><\/span><\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/sup><\/a><font size=\"2\"> But finding it earlier makes it more treatable.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong><font size=\"2\">Dr Anant Sachdev, a GP who features in the Be Clear on Cancer advertising, comments:<\/font><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cIt\u2019s important for people from all communities to be aware of the symptoms of bladder and kidney cancer, especially where cultural, language and religious barriers exist. The message is simple, if you notice blood in your urine, even if it\u2019s just the once, tell your doctor.\u201d<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cIt\u2019s very straightforward for your doctor to examine you and decide whether to arrange further tests. If your doctor suspects it might be bladder or kidney cancer, you will be urgently referred to a hospital and they will then organise the tests, and, if necessary, treatment. You will either get reassurance that it isn\u2019t cancer, or if it is, you will have a better chance of successful treatment.\u201d <\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\"><strong>Jyoti Howe, a bladder cancer survivor from London, who supports the Be Clear on Cancer campaign said:<\/strong> <\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cI had no idea that blood in urine was a symptom of bladder cancer. It\u2019s so important to act quickly when you notice blood in your urine. Don\u2019t ignore it thinking it will go away. See your doctor straight away. I\u2019m living proof that bladder cancer is more treatable if caught early.\u201d<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">Four Premier League clubs\u00a0from across the country (Liverpool FC, West Ham United FC, Southampton FC and West Bromwich Albion FC) have put their rivalry to one side to support Public Health England\u2019s campaign to increase awareness that blood in urine is a key symptom of bladder and kidney cancers. The Premier League and football clubs\u2019 support will help reach men in particular, who are at greater risk of developing bladder and kidney cancers, and help keep the \u2018blood in urine\u2019 message at the front of people\u2019s minds.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong><font size=\"2\">Professor Kevin Fenton, Director of Health and Wellbeing at Public Health England, comments: <\/font><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cThis campaign encourages those who notice blood in their urine to go to their doctor straight away \u2013 bladder and kidney cancers are more treatable if they are found early.
