Jeans for Genes raises money for Genetic Disorders UK and aims to change the world for children with genetic disorders. Individually, genetic disorders are rare but together they affect 1 in 25 children born in the UK – that’s more than 30,000 babies each year. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 years and under.<\/div>\n

This year\u2019s Jeans for Genes Day takes place on Friday 18th<\/sup> September and is aiming to raise \u00a32 million to provide care and support to children with genetic disorders.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The day invites people to leave their suits and uniforms at home and wear their jeans to work or school in return for a donation which will help change the lives of children across the UK.\u00a0<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Jeans for Genes Day provides vital funding for the care and support of children with genetic disorders. In 2014, 25 charities benefited from the funds raised on Jeans for Genes Day and this year we support 20 charities. Donations pay for practical day-to-day support, equipment, respite and events which bring families together to help them feel less isolated. See below some examples:<\/div>\n

\u00a325<\/strong> will pay for one telephone call, which provides valuable support and advice to someone looking after a children with a genetic disorder<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a350<\/strong> will pay for a parent to attend a support day where they\u2019ll get the advice and guidance they need to care for their child<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a3150<\/strong> will pay for a child and their parents to go to a specialist conference, where they\u2019ll meet medical experts and other families affected by the same condition <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a3250<\/strong> will help fund a website where children affected with a genetic disorder can get much-needed information and support<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a3500<\/strong> will pay for a specialist nurse to care for a child with a genetic disorder after a bone marrow transplant<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a31,000<\/strong> will help fund a film for a teenagers to come to terms with their life-limiting condition <\/div>\n
