Start saving right away \u2013 we\u2019ve picked out five of the Energy Saving Trust\u2019s top ten tips to help you on your way. They all have a big impact, so even if you just do one of them, you\u2019ll still be better off. <\/p>\n

  1. Turn down your thermostat.<\/strong> Just reducing it by 1\u00b0C could cut 10% off your heating bill \u2013 it usually saves around \u00a355 per year.<\/li>\n

  2. Turn off the lights<\/strong> when you leave a room.<\/li>\n

  3. Fill up your washing machine<\/strong>, tumble dryer and dishwasher. One full load uses less energy than two half loads. Wash your clothes at 30\u00baC and don’t use the tumble dryer if you can avoid it.<\/li>\n

  4. Don\u2019t boil more water than you need<\/strong> but remember to cover the elements if you’re using an electric kettle.<\/li>\n

  5. Use energy saving light bulbs<\/strong> if you haven\u2019t already switched. They last up to 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs, and don\u2019t cost much more. Using one can save you around \u00a355 over the lifetime of the bulb.<\/li>\n
