{"id":10585,"date":"2014-09-23T12:50:34","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T12:50:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/09\/23\/tory-conference\/"},"modified":"2014-09-23T12:50:34","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T12:50:34","slug":"tory-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/09\/23\/tory-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Tory Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Chamber Spearheads Drive To Empower Cities <\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" width=\"570\" height=\"225\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/Chamber%20Tory%20Party-%20570x225.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The growing demands to give more power to the regions will be driven by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) during the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham on Monday.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The Empowering Cities event will take place at the offices of Birmingham-based international law firm Squire Patton Boggs, who are partnering the GBCC along with ThinkBirmingham.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Tim Pile, president of the Chamber, who will chair the event, said: \u201cCities are the driving force behind the UK economy but are not have only control a fraction of the money they raise. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cEven though Scotland voted no, the Westminster consensus will be changed forever so there couldn\u2019t be a better time to discuss the vital role that cities play in the UK economy.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cBy international standards, the UK currently has a highly centralised tax and expenditure system. Only five per cent of taxes raised by local people are controlled by cities.
