Firefly Motion Pictures and Ranbir Kaloya Productions are proud to announce the release of their forthcoming Punjabi feature film ‘Mahi NRI’ (My Beloved Non-Resident Indian). The film is set for release on Friday 10th February 2017.

The film is primarily set in the heart of UK, Birmingham. It is a realistic multi- cultural romantic comedy that follows the life of a student named Sherry played by Hardy Sandhu, who lands in the UK and has very little experience of the British way of life. He comes to UK to become an NRI (Non-Resident Indian) to please his girlfriend’s mother in Punjab, India who feels that a man from UK is the only suitable match for her daughter.

Film Director Gaurav Bavdankar said, “Most of the filmmakers from Indian want to go and film in London, I wanted my main characters of this story to be based in my home town of Birmingham.  Birmingham and the Black Country have range of locations to offer. The support and love we received from the people of Birmingham and the Black Country while we were filming was overwhelming. Also the music is going to be loved by all as it has got the best combination of composers, lyricists and singers”.

The film shows Sherry (Hardy Sandhu) and the twists and turns that he goes through. It also takes a humorous sideways look a rural Indian point of view, UK is still seen as the place where the streets are paved with gold and that all British Asians have huge sprawling houses, big cars and money that grows on trees.

I worked hard to prep myself for the part of Sherry, who is a happy-go-lucky guy who doesn’t have a care it the world, until the reality of him losing his girlfriend dawns upon him

The lead actor Hardy Sandhu who plays Sherry said, “I worked hard to prep myself for the part of Sherry, who is a happy-go-lucky guy who doesn’t have a care it the world, until the reality of him losing his girlfriend dawns upon him. It was a challenge for me to stay in character from UK scenes first and then in India for the scenes there. When you see the movie, you will see me in a different role altogether that I have never played in before. I thoroughly enjoyed working in UK, it was a blast, it was also great meeting people from all walks of life and loved the locations”.

Film Producer Ranbir Kaloya said, “I fell in love with the story and characters the first time I read the script. The film to a degree is reality what really happens in India and UK, in most cases, parents in India want men from UK to marry their daughters so that they have a better way of life here. This film shows the journey of a young man who comes to UK to get his citizenship so that he can go back to India to marry the woman he loves. But in UK he runs into many mishaps and misfortunes that hinder his plans. Many people form UK and India will relate to this film in many ways”.
