Umer Farooq’s visa was rejected by the Home Office over what his family claims was a ‘small mistake’, forcing him to remain in Pakistan during his daughter’s 4th birthday.
Farooq travelled to Pakistan to take care of his mother in November 2014, before submitting a visa application to return back to the UK in August 2017. The application was denied in November 2017 over a ‘small error’, and so his wife re-submitted the documents for an appeal in December 2017.  The Home Office was due to respond by February 2018, but have missed their deadline by over a month. Farooq’s wife, Nazneen Hussein, is still awaiting their response.
She says, ‘I corrected the mistake, which wasn’t our mistake…the refusal letter quite clearly states it’s just that one error’. She claims the error was in fact due to the centre at which her husband took his English test. They had not provided the correct test code, resulting in the refusal of Farooq’s application. His wife went on to say ‘I am trying everything in my power but there are certain things that are out of my control…My hair is falling out, I have anxiety, I need my husband home’.
A spokeswoman at the Home Office has responded to the family’s concerns, saying the Home Office are ‘reconsidering Mr Farooq’s case and will be in touch with his representatives shortly’.
