A supermarket on Washwood Heath Road was on fire on Thursday, May 17 around 2.46pm and thirteen firefighters battled through the thick black smoke. 

West Midlands Fire service were called to the blaze at the Green supermarket, the

building was evacuated as firefighters spent two hours clearing black smoke from building.

It would appear the fire started from the first-floor kitchen.

Firefighters used four positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the smoke and left the scene shortly after 6pm.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Fire Service said: “13 fire fighters attended a first-floor kitchen fire at a large supermarket at 2.26pm yesterday.

“It was evacuated, and all persons were accounted for.

“Crews were at the scene to clear black smoke from the building for two more hours and requested two more positive pressure ventilation fans.

“The supermarket was 100 per cent affected by the smoke when left at at 6.20pm we left the scene with the floor manager.”

West Midlands Fire confirmed no other emergency services were in attendance.
