Police appeal in city robbery

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following an armed robbery from a Royal Mail van in Alum Rock Road, Birmingham.

The incident occurred yesterday just after 12pm.

A lone offender approached the driver of the van, which was parked outside Tote Bookmakers in Alum Rock Road, threatened him a handgun and stole contents of a cash box.

The offender made off on foot with a large amount of cash in a black Ford Focus, registration number BK56 EFO, which was believed to be parked outside Riaz foreign exchange. The vehicle is still outstanding.

The offender is described as possible Asian male, in dark clothing with his face covered.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with information is urged to call the robbery team at Queens Road police station on 0845 113 5000 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
